APC mutation associated with late onset of familial adenomatous polyposis.
Familial adenomatous polyposis is an autosomal dominantly inherited disorder. Mutation studies in the corresponding gene (APC) may provide information for predictive tests for persons at risk in affected families. We report here a new mutation in exon 6 (codon 233) of the APC gene and clinical data in a large family with late onset of the disease in most affected persons.

The other mode of treating these patients are subtotal colectomy with ileorectal anastomosis alongwith regular follow up with proctoscopy for development of cancer in retained rectal mucosa(3,7). Recently, Stevan et al. (8) utilized laproscope for total proctocolectomy as well as ileoanal anostomosis while others performed ileopouch anal anastomosis alongwith total proctocolectomy(9,10). Thus t...
متن کاملextracolonic manifestations in familial adenomatous polyposis
introduction: due to the whole network of polyposis registers worldwide and early prophylactic treatment, survival of familial adenomatosis (fap) patients is improved. extracolonic manifestations are remarkable feature of fap. two extracolonic manifestations (duodenal adenomatosis, leading duodenal cancer and desmoid tumours) play a very important role in the reasons of death in polyposis popul...
متن کاملAdenomatous polyposis coli (APC): a multi-functional tumor suppressor gene.
The adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) gene is a key tumor suppressor gene. Mutations in the gene have been found not only in most colon cancers but also in some other cancers, such as those of the liver. The APC gene product is a 312 kDa protein that has multiple domains, through which it binds to various proteins, including beta-catenin, axin, CtBP, Asefs, IQGAP1, EB1 and microtubules. Studies ...
متن کاملFamilial polyposis coli and its extracolonic manifestations.
A detailed clinical study of 30 families with familial polyposis coli is presented. Seven 'isolated' cases are also described. It was found that some families did not exhibit any extracolonic manifestations, but the majority of families showed various numbers of members who had these manifestations of differing types and degrees. In view of the great variability within the members of a family, ...
